Greece Rotary Club had the opportunity to tour the Monroe County Sheriff's Regional Investigative Operations Center (RIOC) with Sheriff Todd Baxter. We were also joined by Rochester Rotary Club, Rochester SW Rotary Club, and Spencerport Rotary Club.
This facility was opened in December 2025, and it brings agencies and technology together to improve coordination, response, and public safety across our region. We got to see firsthand how the center operates, including how drones are used and learn more about the technologies behind it.
What stood out the most was the thought and intention behind these decisions. Sheriff Baxter was very clear about protecting civil liberties and the policies and safeguards in place to ensure technology is used responsibly. We had a great conversation about AI, partnerships, drones, and how the Sheriff's Office evaluates technology to make sure it is smart, effective, and a responsible use of public resources.
